Number the Stars

I prefer reading Number the Stars to Dragonwings. The reason is that there is
a friendship between the girls, Annemarie and Ellen, in Number the Stars but there
isn't any in Dragonwings. I think the lives of Annemarie and Ellen are not easy but
they can enjoy themselves by playing games together with Kirsti. I love reading
the scenes of the girls playing games or chatting because they are funny and I
can imagine the scenes of them playing. When Annemarie, her Mama
and Ellen come to the meadow near Uncle Henrik's house, I can feel the fresh
air and breeze. I think it is because I was reading the book in the airport and
because of nothing interesting I can do and so I read the book enjoyably and
I put my mind into the book.

At first, I don't understand why Annemarie and Ellen are so afraid when they
meet the soldiers at the corner. But when the soldiers rush in Annemarie's house
at late night with harsh words, then I think I understand. Wars make no good to
the citizens and the lives are poor. Because of the war, the Johnansens cannot
have any tea or cigarette. Jews need to stay away to the soldiers and their
friends need to keep caution. Their nerves are always stretched. I am glad that
I am not living in the war. My life is peaceful.

Muky, you're the first student in the class to demonstrate any personal opinion in her writing; that deserves extra credit. I'm glad you had time at the airport to digest well this riveting war novel. Imagine if you ran into two PLA soldiers!
